This week saw the announcement of details on the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme for low carbon electricity (the Feed in Tariff), due for launch in just 2 months time!

Despite some disappointment that the tariffs could have been higher, it looks as if the UK could finally start to catch up with its European neighbours with roll out of small scale renewables. With 41 pence per kWh on a domestic size solar system this could mean the average household earns over £1,000 per annum from doing their bit to reduce carbon emissions.

Equally important, the Government also announced plans to support renewable heat from April 2011 with an extension of the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme. The great thing about this news is that even if you install a heat technology before 2011, you will get the benefit of Clean Energy Cashback for renewable heating once it is introduced.  Having a renewable heating technology such as solar heating, biomass or a heat pump now makes complete economic, as well as environmental sense for millions of homes in the UK.
